Music of the week: 41/26

Every week we are gonna choose a nice music for you and share it here 😊🎶

🗓️ Week 41-2026:

Heart – “If Looks Could Kill ” – Official video

Uhhhhhhhh! It’s a Heart song – it’s a good song, but this one is a real gem!

Our Music of the Week – “If Looks Could Kill ” is a track from Heart’s album, released in July 1985, titled *Heart*.

This is the first track on this 10-track album which also includes other mega big hits such as “Alone” and “These Dreams”.

One thing that really stands out to me is the stylistic shift in this song. Heart’s traditional folk/hard rock seems to have been influenced by the prominent use of synthesizers, but with that arena rock vibe (typical of the ’80s) and it moves into a more glam metal/AOR era. It’s the pure essence of 1985 rock.

The whole band is just wonderful – nothing but top-notch professionals! And Ann Wilson’s impressive vocal performance – wow – she takes a melody that could be just another pop song and cranks the intensity up to the max with her aggressive high notes, delivering this masterpiece!

Fun Fact!⭐️

You can tell I love this song, hehe.

The first time I really paid attention to it was in a singing class (ages ago), and I swear, I was terrified. I told the teacher, “No way! How could I even come close to Ann Wilson singing this???”

Anyway, everything worked out, and of course the song became one of my favorites! (⬅️ btw, this is me, Patty, at age 5!😅)

Somewhat curiously, this isn’t an original song by the band; unlike 1970s classics such as “Barracuda”, this song was written by Jack Conrad and Bob Garrett.

It was also originally recorded by Pamala Stanley in 1985, whose version was even featured on the soundtrack of the 1986 action movie Raw Deal, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger 🤯! Well, if you’re curious like me 😂 – Watch the original recording below⬇️

🤭 Sorry, not sorry – but I like the Heart’s version soo much better 🖤.

And the meaning of the lyrics is definitely: Empowerment! With a touch of anger 😅. The song tackles universal rock themes: infidelity, betrayal, drama,….

As it plays, it’s like the narrative of a confrontation – it recounts the exact moment when the protagonist catches her partner lying and cheating, and instead of casting herself as the sad victim, she channels that into pure outrage. (Go get ’em, girl!)💪
And the best part is the visual metaphor in the story – the chorus plays on the popular expression “if looks could kill”, the cheater would be twisting in pain and would never lie again. It’s a very powerful anthem of female rage and catharsis.

Yeah, just imagine if our eyes had that power, 👀 hmm … there’d be no one left, not even to write the song 😂!

Anyway, here are the full lyrics to “If Looks Could Kill “:

Caught you in the act, can't put up with that
Messing where you shouldn't be
I wanna hear you say you're sorry
'Cause nobody takes advantage of me

You're missing the mark, shooting in the dark
I'm pulling the wool from my eyes
Baby, don't push me further
It's gonna hurt you if it happens twice

If looks could kill
You'd be lying on the floor
You'd be begging me, "Please, please
Baby, don't hurt me no more"
If looks could kill
You'd be reeling from the pain
And you'd never lie again
If looks could kill

Living on the edge, hanging by a thread
I'm watchin' every move you make
You don't wanna see my anger
So don't you make another mistake

Love is on the line, I ain't about to be kind
That's a promise and a threat
If I was you, I'd really cool it
Or risk a night you'll never forget

If looks could kill
You'd be lying on the floor
You'd be begging me, "Please, please
Darlin', don't hurt me no more"
If looks could kill
You'd be reeling from the pain
And you'd never lie again
If looks could kill

I was a fool to believe in you
A sucker for every line
I'm a little less blind than I was before
I can see right through your design

If looks could kill
You'd be lying on the floor
You'd be begging me, "Please, please
Baby, don't hurt me no more"
If looks could kill
You'd be reeling from the pain
And you'd never lie again
If looks could kill
You'd be lying on the floor
You'd be begging me, "Please, please
Baby, don't hurt me no more"
If looks could kill
You'd be reeling from the pain
And you'd never lie again
If looks could kill
If looks could kill

Take this burst of energy!!!
