Life’s too short

to enjoy just one style of music!

Music has always been important in my life. In times when it seemed that nothing was more than before, when I no longer knew what to believe in, it comforted myself and gave everything meaning again.

I’ve written my own songs before, played in cover bands for so many years and then all the fun of it was completely lost, left my last (cover) band frustrated and annoyed by it.

I don’t want to judge cover bands, after all. These are certainly justified, but I personally never had much fun listening to them. Sure, a lot of people want to hear songs they already know when they see a band.

In my opinion it’s human, familiar somehow feels good and right. You don’t have to be constantly on a journey of discovery.

What kind of music you like may also have to do with what you’re used to and whether the new might have something to do with it. 300 years old or brand new… just because music is old doesn’t mean that you’ve known it for a long time. So it can be new to the one who has just discovered it for himself.

“The most essential, the most crucial, and the most important thing in music is the tempo.”

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Progress is good, but not always absolutely necessary. We all have limited time; We should do as much as possible with it and for this we have to discover what is out there. This is the only way we have the chance to find something we like.

Always trapping music, for me that means enjoying the diversity. Isn’t it amazing how different music is, even though there is only such a limited number of notes? And with that I am not yet thinking of other scales than the well-tempered one.

Anyway: after I had already stopped composing my own music, I started again when I met Patty and enjoy it more than ever! We complement each other so well musically. It’s so much fun to create music together and to have something in the end that transports a mood that only music can. I love her voice and its versatility. Her ideas for new compositions as well as this “I don’t know if it’s right, but do you like it?”. It’s our thing and we can do whatever we want with it. The way music has always been for me: fascinating!

So, have fun with music!

Cheers
